After commencing his articles of clerkship in 1990, a period of employment in the , sector as a legal adviser ensued, culminating in an appointment as Assistant General Counsel: Africa for a multi-national company with its head office in New York. During the above period, various articles were written by Denis, most notably an article on the Duties of Trustees, which was published in Cover (the Insurance , magazine) in 2003. On invitation of the then minister of , Mr. Trevor Manuel, Denis participated in the focus group responsible for the re-, of retirement fund legislation.
