Listing Description

Elliott Maris was established in 1873 by Robert Dundas Graham, just two years after the founding of Kimberley. Mr. Graham, a mining partner of Cecil John Rhodes, also held Mr. Rhodes’ Will. The firm’s first offices were located on Shippard Street, where the modern Diamond Cutting Works now stands. In 1881, Mr. Graham was among the 74 original signatories who each pledged to take one debenture share worth 100 pounds when the Kimberley Club was founded.
